Air France La Premiere
I will begin by saying that in my experience Air France La Premiere is the best First Class product in the world. Usually elusive as it is very difficult to book with points and fares are usually high I was able to score a mistake fare that made it an easy choice. The fact that only Air Frances's own elite members can book the product with miles makes the product even more exclusive. My experience with La Premiere begins in Paris where an Air France chauffeur picks me up at my hotel on the left bank and we are off de Charles de Gaulle Airport. Upon arrival at CDG terminal 2, my personal assistant and escort are waiting to greet me along with a hotel-style luggage cart for my bags. I was quickly whisked away to a private check-in area where all the formalities are handled for me. Once check-in was complete I am taken to the lounge, once inside there is no need to go back into the terminal again.
I opted to have lunch before my flight and why not as the menu is from Alain Ducasse. I began with a Grey Goose martini before switching to a white burgundy for the rest of the meal. I began with a pate en croute which was sensational, followed by elbow pasta with cheese ham, and truffle which is the most exquisite macaroni and cheese I have ever had. For dessert a baba au rhum with a glass of sauternes which was divine. I relaxed in the lounge for a bit until my assistant came to escort me to my flight, we exit the lounge to a waiting BMW 7 series that then drives me to the plane. At the gate, I am escorted up an elevator into the jet bridge and board through a private door to a cabin that consists of 4 seats in 1 row. This for me is almost a private charter as I am the only passenger in First Class today. Champagne and an amuse bouche of caviar are served on the ground and the flight attendant asks when I would like to eat. Since I had already eaten in the lounge I opted to rest before eating which is not a problem.
Once in the air, the flight attendant makes up a bed for me in the empty seat across the aisle and I get 4 hours of the best sleep I have ever had on an airplane. When I wake up it is time for more food, I start with another glass of champagne which is the lovely Tattinger Comtes de Champagne. I begin with the foie gras starter followed by a pan-fried veal filet with potato gratin, to accompany this red Bordeaux.
This was followed by a cheese plate with port wine and a chocolate finger for dessert accompanied by a glass of sauternes. This was without question the most spectacular and delicious meal I have ever had in the sky, and rivals most restaurants on the ground.
After lunch I watched some movies and got some work done in comfort, the flight attendant checked on me frequently. I was even offered another meal before landing but I was too full to even consider that. We arrived early at LAX and thanks to Global Entry I was through customs and in my car home in no time.
My experience on Air France La Premiere is the best flight I have ever had. The service, seat, food, and lounge are all top-notch.
